Now that minimally invasive surgery is accepted for small intestine neuroendocrine tumors, many wonder how it is done? It’s really quite simple, fast, and doesn’t require advanced laparoscopic skills. A limited midline incision is made slightly above and below the umbilicus. A GelPort is inserted and a trocar is placed through the GelSeal cap. After insufflation, a laparoscope is inserted to assess for distant disease. The GelSeal cap is removed, and the entire jejunum and ileum are carefully palpated to identify multifocal primary tumors. The involved segment of ileum is brought out through the GelPort, and extracorporeal mesenteric mass/lymph node dissection, ileum resection, and anastomosis are completed. The tiny incision is closed. See a team of NET specialists to see if MIS is right for you. 1. Small periumbilical midline incision 2.
