Stephanie Ledesma, Assistant Professor of Law and Director of Experiential Learning Programs at Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law, presents on the importance of cultural compassion in the stable of skills of a compassionate 21st century lawyer. She lays out the steps of cultural awareness, cultural competence, empathy, and cultural compassion: acknowledging the difference in cultures, learning about and understanding those differences, recognizing if those differences result in injustice, and being compelled to rise up against that injustice.
