Guitar, balalaika, toms, congas, and cymbals form the foundation of an experimental yet deeply organic soundscape that retains echoes of the blackened folk aesthetics. However, here the ferocity is replaced with a pure intimacy, each note resonating with what feels like an unfiltered glimpse into the artist’s soul dedicated to his deceased grandfather. The instrumentation alternates between playful and meditative, imbued with a sense of wonder that feels almost childlike in its purity. The unconventional inclusion of balalaika and congas adds a textural richness, grounding the compositions in earthy, tactile rhythms while inviting a sense of improvisational exploration. Lyrically, the album bridges the abstract and the deeply personal. “Un vampiro borracho en el pantano de Guadalest” per example oscillates between surreal humour and a poignant melancholy, depicting a drunken vampire wandering through mist-laden swamps. The imagery is as vivid as it is absurd, painting a world teetering between the supernatural and the mundane. Meanwhile, “Tañen las Campanas” shifts into a sombre reflection on loss and inevitability, its mournful verses underscored by cyclical, almost hypnotic melodies. The creative process for this album was born in the shadow of personal loss, a fact that permeates the work with an added layer of poignancy.
