It's located 2 hours North of Izmir at the Aegean Sea and is a popular summer destination especially among Turkish tourists. Cunda was formerly inhabited by a Greek population and you can still see a church in its center as a reminder of the island's past. Today the charming island is all about the beautiful old stone houses, cobbestoned streets, windmills, and fishermen's boats at the harbour. The center of the town gets really busy especially on the weekends and in the evenings. Here you'll find cute little shops, a bazaar where you can buy all types of souvenirs, and of course, lots of restaurants and cafes. Tourists can also take a boat tour around the island or head over to Ayvalık by boat (of course you can also drive there as the island is connected by a bridge). This area of Turkey is famous for its olives and olive oil as well as for the mezze (appetizers) so definitely try some when you visit. Cunda Island gets really crowded over the summer and there are only smaller hotels on the island so you need to either book your accommodation well in advance or make it a day trip from Izmir or another town nearby.
