Exploring The Hobbiton Movie Set | Travel New Zealand with Kids

The Hobbiton movie set is a huge tourist attraction in New Zealand and we’ve come to check it out for ourselves. The Hobbiton Movie Set location was used for filming The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy. You can’t just wander around here on your own, you have to book a guided tour. It’s really interesting to walk around Hobbiton even if you didn’t watch the Lord of the rings or hobbit movies. The set is really detailed and just walking around you can feel what it would be like to live here. The movie set is 14 acres in size so there’s a bit a walking! In 2012 the Green Dragon Inn, a replica of the one in the Hobbit movies, was opened on the set. We’ll go check it out! The mill, the double arch bridge, the party tree, and the facades of 44 hobbit holes were all built for the set. We finished our tour with drinks at the Green Dragon. Touring Hobbiton was a really fun afternoon. We recommend it but you better book your tickets in advance! Family travel from a child's perspective.
