We visit the Dryad Ghost Town located in the upper Chehalis River Valley on the edge of the Willapa Hills. On this episode of Searching for History, Erin and I drive out to rural Lewis County looking for signs of the ghost town of Dryad. Dryad was first known as Salal. The Northern Pacific Railway named the community Dryad around 1890. Dryad was a former lumber town. Today there is almost nothing left of Dryad. Only the Dryad Baptist Community Church and what was the public-school building remain. The Doty-Dryad Cemetery is located a short drive away. It really is amazing to look out over a field and know that once there was a town there.
