This video was shown at the International Forensic Photography Symposium on 01/24/2024. Daniel Modesto quickly demonstrates the structure of the Brazilian police and how criminal expertise is related to them. He says that not all states have forensic photographers and that this would be very important for elucidating crimes, considering that we have a huge number of crimes in Brazil. Unfortunately, the legislation tends to overload the police and forensics and does not give importance to the work of the forensic photographer. Modesto presents his equipment, the biggest difficulties, and statistics that show that the forensic photographer's career is heading towards extinction. Despite the scarcity of resources (financial investment and hiring of professionals), Modesto show how forensic photographers work, seeking to deliver the best possible result and promote justice through the best photographic shots. He tells you some cases in which photography was essential in determining the dynamics of the crime, even when it was not noticed at the scene of the crime. Therefore, the development of policies to promote forensic photography combined with legislation that regulates the mandatory nature of photographs are the challenges that forensic photography must face.
