TIPS FOR VISITING GERMANY'S FAIRY TALE CASTLES (NEUSCHWANSTEIN & HOHENSCHWANGAU)

Need tips for visiting Germany's fairy tale castles? Check out our vlog for helpful advice on how to spend the day exploring Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle. Two of Bavaria's most beautiful castles are only one mile apart from each other, so we were able to easily visit both castles in one day. Neuschwanstein Castle (Schloss Neuschwanstein) was intended to be the home of King Ludwig II, and Hohenschwangau Castle was King Ludwig II of Bavaria's childhood home. After parking in the village of Hohenschwangau, we began our hike to the castle. The hike took about 45 minutes. The castle was still in a fog when we arrived, so we decided to walk around the castle grounds. When we walked to the back of the castle, we could see Hohenschwangau Castle which was King Ludwig II of Bavaria's childhood home. Unfortunately, Mary's Bridge was closed so we didn't get views of the castle from the famous viewpoint. After spending some time admiring the fairytale castle, we headed down the hill and grabbed some lunch from Neuschwanstein Castle Restaurant. Next, we walked to Hohenschwangau which only took about 20 minutes. At this castle, we were able to explore the castle gardens. Views of the surrounding area were also pretty spectacular. Visiting the castles made for a great day trip from Munich. Here are our top tips for visiting Neuschwanstein: -If you don't want to pay to see the inside of the castles, it is free to walk around the grounds of both castles. If you want to see the inside of the castles, book a ticket online. You have to be on a guided tour to enter the castle and the tickets have specific times. Factor in enough time to pick up your reserved tickets and time to get to the castle. -There are several ways to get to the castle (bus, carriage ride, hike).
