Album Significance: This was the last album the Blackwood Brothers bass singer sang in (J.D. Sumner) before he transferred as the official owner of the Stamps Quartet and chose to sing bass for the Stamps. With J.D. being with the Stamps, he renamed the quartet to J.D. Sumner & The Stamps Quartet. The previous bass singer on the Stamps, John Hall transferred to the Blackwood Brothers and became their bass singer for the next 3 years (1965-1968). J.D. Sumner would continue with the Stamps until 1980 when he transferred to the Statesmen Quartet for about a month then formed the Masters V. In 1988 the Masters V rebranded as “J.D. Sumner & The Stamps Quartet” and would remain that way until J.D.’s death in 1998. Today the Stamps are named “Ed Enoch And The Golden Covenant” while the Blackwood Brothers remain under the same name even until today.
