UPDATE: One of the hinge got really stiff and made a creaking noise every time I bent it. Fortunately, Brydge customer service was able to send out a replacement. Eventually, the replacement keyboard Brydge sent me started making a creaking noise too. I have since stopped using it. I got a chance to try out the new Brydge 12.3 Pro+ as part of the Beta Program. The Brydge keyboard may have finally met my needs as a digital artist. It's a Bluetooth keyboard with unique hinges to hold the Surface Pro like a laptop. Since it's wireless, I can easily prop the tablet up to bring the display to eye level or place the keyboard to the side so I can access the quick keys while I'm drawing. It offers a lot of possibilities that traditional laptops do not. The build quality is superb and plays well with the Surface Pro design cues. The keyboard has metal construction that feels solid without being too heavy. Depending on the angle you may notice the Brydge to be slightly more sparkly than the Surface. The hinges have a range from 0-180 degrees (up from previous 160). This should be enough for most situations. If you need greater than 180 degrees, the tablet will fit backwards, but the the back side of the hinges cover the corners in that configuration. I wish Brydge opted for the L-shape hinge on both sides as they did with some other models. A major concern from some users is light bleed from the pressure of the hinges. I notice a little bit of this when opening and closing but it seems minor enough that I'm not terribly concern. I will update if it becomes an issue over time. There is some flexibility in the hinge so you may be able to bend it to loosen or tighten if necessary. I noticed Brydge redesigned these hinges to extend wider, but I think the better solution is to make to the inside of the hinges taller so it requires less force to close and hence less pressure on the display, even if it eats into keyboard real estate. The Bluetooth 5.0 connection was easy to setup and connect quickly after sleeping. One key difference from the previous model is a bigger and better touchpad. The touchpad works as expected. All the gestures functions flawlessly. The USB C port for charging is another welcome addition, particularly for the SP7, which finally get a USB C as well so everything can be charged with the same cable. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog The typing experience is better than most third party keyboards and on par with the major manufacturers. The keys have good travel without being too noisy (you can hear me typing right now). It has three levels of backlighting. Unfortunately the only color is cool white. The backlight will time out pretty quickly when not typing, even if you're actively using the touchpad. Overall it is freaking awesome, and not just because I got the keyboard courtesy of Brydge. Aside from the few qualms I nitpick about earlier, this combination is almost perfect. It allows me to go quickly from painting to cutting video. It allows for proper ergonomics in the office and lapability when I'm on the go. It allows me to do just about everything a tablet and laptop can do but in one device, that I can picture myself using for years to come.
