(12 Jun 1999) Natural Sound German army units, taking part in NATO's largest military operation, were moving toward Kosovo from Macedonia on Saturday. This is the first deployment of German troops in strength since the end of World War II. Making their way to the main border crossing point near Blace, the German troops were cheered by hundreds of refugees from Stankovic camp. They shouted "NATO! NATO!" and made victory signs. Meanwhile, more British troops crossed the Kosovo border at the village of Djeneral Jankovic. The movements are part of the build up for "Operation Joint Guardian", one of the biggest military undertakings in Europe since World War Two. British and French troops were spearheading the initial NATO thrust, with German, U-S and Italian forces moving in later.
