NARRATOR: A Basic PERS is an electronic device you wear, like a necklace or bracelet, that you use to get help in an emergency. It is connected to an emergency response center through your landline or mobile phone. When activated, it calls the response center for you. NARRATOR: You may also qualify for add-ons to the Basic PERS device. Global Positioning System (GPS) add-on – can be activated to provide your location if you are lost or unable to find your way home. It’s not for tracking someone’s location all day long. There are additional requirements for children who use the GPS service. NARRATOR: There are requirements to qualify for each of these add-ons. Check with your developmental disabilities case manager if you have questions about these requirements. NARRATOR: If you qualify for CFC, you have access to a $550 annual budget to spend on PERS add-ons or PERS add-ons + two other CFC services. If the cost of your PERS add-ons exceed your $550 annual budget, your developmental disabilities case manager will request an exception to rule to cover the amount over $550.
