This was a great adventure for me. After spending a year living in my 2600RB travel trailer from Grand Design I have decided to sell her and get something else. This will be my final trip and I am stoked to have the 2021 Silverado 2500hd to tow it with. Living in Vancouver, a trip up to beautiful Whistler just makes sense. Freya, my trailer weighs about 6300lbs when she is fully loaded. I have had a chance to pull my trailer with several different full sized SUVs and half tone trucks. From the Lincoln Navigator, Nissan Armada, Ford F150, Dodge Ram and Silverado just to name a few. My test truck is the 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. Crew cab, LTZ and Carhart Special edition. Base price is $66, 798CAD and this specific truck is rated to pull 11,350lbs. Important to note that you can get a 3500 with the dulley and it can pull 35,000lbs. Everything on this HD makes work easier and playtime more enjoyable. The shining star for GM is the 6.6L turbo diesle V8 Duramax engine paired with the new 10speed Allison transmission. The Duramax is an addiotnal $11,000CAD and the Carhart Edition is an additional $3,300. This gives you an off road pacakge, 15 cameras, mossaic black metallic Chevrolet grill with chrome inserts,  20inch alluminmum wheels and lots of options for trailering. This Duramax is a carry over. Its is now paired with the new 10speed transmission that is larger and has a faster controler. This combination is the reason why you want to buy this truck; it is a monster. Giving 100% of the torque off the line and then it does a wondrerful job of getting all the power to the rea wheels. With the independent front suspension and stiffer body, the drive is very smooth when you tackle rough terrain. Nothing stands out that I don't really like about this truck. THe steering feel is a bit lighter than the compitiion. Both Ford and Dodge have more acitve safety features than this Silverado. I am personally not a fan of power side steps. What I love the most about this powerful truck is that depsite its size and impressive capabilities, I feel comfortable behind the wheel. It is not overwhelming to drive. The Duramax Allison combo just can't be beat. And for me, the long list of trailering options available is what would be the selling feature for me. The cameras to hook up and drive safely maneuver behind the wheel really stood out on this truck. A common complaint on trucks, especially GMs is the long list of options, packages and special editions can make the selection process frustrationg. Know exaclty what you need and want in your truck. How much do you need to tow?  Is heated seats and a great stereo important to you? Make a list before you go into the dealership and just let the salesperson know what you need. Don't feel you need to get things that are not important to your purchase decision. If a truck is going to be for work, play and everything in between, know your budget but focus more on getting everything you need. With such impressive towing numbers and so mny options to choose from; there is a HD Silverado available for every lifestyle.
