“Twelve riders answered the wind. Across deserts, mountains, and plains, they rode until the wind itself became the path.” The wind that began on the open steppe has now crossed the wide plateaus of Anatolia. It moves onward, climbing higher into lands where the earth rises toward the sky. Here, the journey becomes more difficult. In the mountains of Afghanistan, the wind no longer moves gently across grasslands. It echoes through narrow passes, rocky paths, and ancient trails carved into the stone by generations of riders and caravans. Another rider hears the call. In these highlands, horses are trusted companions. They move carefully along steep paths where one wrong step can send stones tumbling into the valleys below. Riders learn patience here. They learn endurance. Beside a mountain path rests a rubab, the deeply resonant instrument often called the father of many stringed instruments across Central and South Asia. Its carved wooden body and warm tone carry the stories of these mountains — songs of travelers, poets, and riders who have crossed these passes for centuries. Nearby, a wool mountain shawl and an embroidered saddle cloth lie across the rider’s saddle, quietly suggesting that the journey has only paused for a moment. The rider has already continued along the narrow path ahead. The mountains demand strength. But the wind still moves. Musically, this piece introduces the voice of the rubab, whose rich, earthy tones reflect the depth and resilience of mountain cultures. The rhythm is slower and more grounded, echoing the careful movement of a horse navigating steep terrain. The journey that began with curiosity on the steppe has now become a test of endurance. And still, the wind continues forward. Across deserts, plains, wetlands, and distant shores, other riders are beginning to hear the same call. Each track in Twelve Riders of the Wind reveals another land shaped by horses and riders. Each culture hears the wind differently, yet the rhythm behind it remains the same — the ancient bond between human, horse, and earth. The riders believe they are following the wind. But the wind is doing something else. It is gathering them. 🎧 Best experienced with headphones. All music and visuals are original and © the creator (C Angelique Fagegaltier).
