Besides the fact that I think majority of PC cases are pretty meh or ugly anyway, I'm a clumsy soul. The amount of times the portable drive would've ended up falling to floor and the money I would've spent replacing it equates to more than buying a case with an 5.25 bay and slapping an optical drive in it. It did come in a plastic bag but it was in tact. No paperwork or information and no sata cable but luckily I wasn't using one of the ones that came with my motherboard. It works great so far, gets a little loud depending on what I'm doing but that's to be expected, and best of all I can't drop it or accidentally hit it and send it tumbling to its doom. It was the best decision for me.
