Independent MP Zali Steggall says she takes “umbrage” with a number of the views of Katherine Deves – after the Liberal candidate recently came under widespread scrutiny over anti-trans comments. Prime Minister Scott Morrison has backed in the Liberal's candidate for Warringah amid calls from within the party for her to be disendorsed. Ms Deves was Mr Morrison's "captain's pick" in the seat. “I think she is a classic example of politics of division and shock,” Ms Steggall told Sky News Australia. “This is about creating division – I think this is a bit of the dead cat strategy, you put something very controversial on the table and that distracts away from other issues.”
