The Australian’s Adam Creighton has hit back at the “hysterical reaction” to Australia’s handful of COVID-19 cases by state leaders. It comes as New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian criticised state border closures on the basis of so-called COVID hotspots. “The National Health experts, of which all the state medical officers are part of, (say) there is no place in Australia that's deemed a hotspot,” the premier said. “So, if there’s no place in Australia that is deemed a hotspot, why do we even have these border closures and these border restrictions”. Mr Creighton said the term hotspot to begin with is a “hysterical term,” but even still, there is no place in Australia which meets the definition. “It really is laughable,” he told Sky News host Chris Smith. “Certainly in terms of international standards, it’s comical our handful our dribble of a few cases and the hysterical reaction to it that we see from the various states.”
