"Vox much w/ echo. Excellent fx. Great eat Very dynamic A+ " "VERY GOOD PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD UNTIL VOCAL IN MIDDLE, THEN NUTS A A- vocal is okay" This is a dub version of "Jah Guide", from 1978. On that release (a 12" 3 song-er) the dub was named "The Father Version" by The Young Rhythm Section. On this reissue from 2012 the dub side has no artist credit. The Young Rhythm Section are never heard from again. The producer, C. Young (hmmm) has 12 writing/arranging credits and a couple producing. Trevor has two songs from '76, and 3 from '78 (all 3 of which Bill owned). That's it. ______________________________________________________ A (small) selection of Bill Stellmach's reggae 7" singles. Bill was a collector and connoisseur of reggae, and particularly of dub. He was a master of the mixtape/playlist and was prepared to provide deep dub cuts for any sound system who might suddenly need a Selecter. He was also a prodigious note-taker, as evidenced by the Post-Its that graded his singles and served as reminders of what was good, bad, and ugly. Bill died April 29, 2025. I've known him since the 6th grade, and we discovered/explored/shared music all of our lives. Dub had been there since the beginning, but now his collection is giving me an advanced lesson in roots reggae and dub versions. I'm sitting shiva with his collection; cataloging, digitizing and sharing a selection of some of the versions he loved (and in some cases hated). Bill loved reggae, but dub was his favorite child. His notes seem to be primarily about the B-sides, the dubs/versions, etc. So those are what I will be focusing on, with a few exceptions. ............................................. This is a rip from his 7" single(s). No particular care was taken to ensure the highest fidelity. Good chance I didn't even run a brush over it. Don't even ask about the stylus/cartridge/TT. Think "ooh, check this out!", not "lossless digital codec from minty virgin vinyl." So if you like what you hear and now wanna purchase this in a way that gets some money to the artist (or their estate)? Cool. You should do that. #dub #reggae #45s #roots #dubreggae #vinyl #trevorbyfield
