This is a recording of a live zoom talk from 16 February 2021. Join Curator Helen Elletson to explore some of the fascinating objects in The William Morris Society’s collection To celebrate Valentine's day, our talk filmed in February highlights what is arguably the most romantic object in the William Morris Society's collection; Frederick Hollyer's platinum print of Love Among the Ruins by Burne-Jones. Love Among the Ruins was one of the most admired of Burne-Jones's works, considered by Du Maurier to be 'the best thing he's done' while George Eliot declared that it made 'life larger and more beautiful to us'. This short talk looks at the inspiration that led Burne-Jones to create his masterpiece, uncovers the stories of the other versions of the picture, including the miniature in William Morris's Omar Khayyam, and also about the romance behind the stunning image itself. This video is the second in our series of online zoom talks exploring the fascinating objects in our collection. Find our upcoming events here: https://williammorrissociety.org/what...
