A tragic incident unfolded at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening when Prakriti Lamsal, a 20-year-old engineering student from Nepal, was found dead in her hostel room. Police suspect suicide and have detained a male student, her batchmate, for questioning. An FIR has been filed under the section of abetment to suicide. The incident sparked protests from Nepali students, accusing the university of neglect after Lamsal reportedly flagged harassment by the detained student. The university maintains the incident was due to a personal dispute. The police are currently investigating the case, while over 500 Nepali students were asked to vacate the campus immediately. The situation has now been brought under control, and normalcy has been restored on campus. .
