The KJSEA Grade 10 school placement process is facing growing criticism from parents over what they describe as a lack of transparency, fairness, and practicality. Numerous learners who scored Exceeding Expectations, including scores as high as 68 out of 72, have reportedly missed out on Cluster 1 national schools such as Alliance, Maseno, and Nairobi School, only to be placed in day schools. At the same time, students with lower scores have secured places in top-tier institutions, raising serious questions about the criteria used in placement. Parents are also alarmed by cases where learners have been assigned to far-flung day schools, with some students from Mombasa placed in Kericho, a situation many say is unreasonable for day schooling and ignores geographical considerations and family circumstances. This has intensified concerns that the system may have relied on rigid quotas or random allocation rather than merit, proximity, and learner choice. The placement change process has added to the frustration. Parents must submit requests through junior school headteachers within a 14-day window, yet most schools remain closed for the holidays. With transfers being single and irreversible, dependent on limited vacancies and prior school selections, parents are questioning how the process can be fair or accessible under these conditions. As pressure mounts, parents and education stakeholders are calling on KNEC and the Ministry of Education to clearly explain the placement criteria, address disparities affecting private school learners, and review cases where distance and practicality appear to have been ignored. #KJSEA #KNEC #CBC #CBE #EducationCrisis #SchoolPlacement
