Angela Morley 1924 – 2009 An English composer, arranger and conductor. She attributed her entry into composing and arranging largely to the influence and encouragement of the Canadian light music composer Robert Farnon. She won two Emmy Awards for her work in music arrangement. These were in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction, in 1988 and 1990, both for television specials starring Julie Andrews. She received Emmy nominations for composing music for television series such as Dynasty and Dallas. She was twice nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Music, Original Song Score/Adaptation: for The Little Prince (1974), a nomination shared with Alan Jay Lerner, Frederick Loewe, and Douglas Gamley; and for The Slipper and the Rose, which Morley shared with Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. She was the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Academy Award. On this video Angela Morley's own composition from the 'Golden Age of Light Music' on the 'Holidays for Strings' album, This is a rarely heard and original light classic from the pen of Angela Morley, very typical of her style and that of the era in which it was written. So often such sort pieces were composed and performed to order for Television and Radio, as on this recording with the 'Telecast Orchestra' .... The composers who wrote this kind of music to order are so underrated and so therefore it is most satisfying to be able to appreciate their efforts in each their own right, as pieces that stand alone and deserve to be part of our wonderful and rich light music heritage. Chaos prevails on entering the Nursery, among the books which have fallen off the shelf there is a book of Nursery Rhymes which falls open as the pages flick through some well know rhymes and children's songs as we get tantalizing glimpses of some well known ditties. But, perhaps the whole episode has simply been wrapped up in a dream, just like our little lives. Dream on!
