Mount Sinai Center for Healthcare Readiness brings together a diverse team of academic and operational experts from the Mount Sinai Health System to ensure that the health care sector can endure and thrive during public health emergencies and continue to provide every American access to just-in-time care. New York City is no stranger to the disruption of healthcare delivery systems during major events. From 9/11 to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mount Sinai Health System has experienced challenges of every nature. These types of large-scale events are only set to continue to threaten their ability to provide excellent clinical care during times of public health emergency. To address this challenge the Readiness Center was founded to build a health system that can withstand and even thrive during public health emergencies to continue to provide critical healthcare resources. The Center’s approach is multifaceted, involving the creation of scientific evidence, policy frameworks, educational programs, and practical tools that can be rapidly deployed in response to emergencies. Also, by fostering collaboration between public and private sectors—including partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, data security experts, and governmental bodies, etc.—the Center is developing a cohesive strategy to ensure the healthcare system can effectively respond to any large-scale public health threat. The Readiness Cener’s mission is to build health care sector readiness and save lives by enabling front-line medical providers and system scientists to work together to ensure the health care system can meet the needs of its patient populations under almost any circumstances.
