The Supreme Court has decided to reserve judgment in the appeal filed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State. The appeal challenges the ruling of the Court of Appeal, which had earlier removed him from office. The five-member panel of judges, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, made this decision after hearing closing arguments from both parties involved. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, along with the New Nigeria People Party, had filed the appeal against the Court of Appeal's decision on November 17, 2023. The Court of Appeal had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yusuf Gawuna, as the winner of the March 26, 2023, governorship election in Kano State. The appeal court upheld the ruling of the tribunal, which had earlier nullified Yusuf's election. The tribunal, led by Justice Oluyemi Osadebay, declared 165,663 votes for Yusuf invalid, citing issues such as unsigned and unstamped ballot papers by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Supreme Court's reserved judgement adds another layer of suspense to the ongoing legal battle over the Kano governorship election.
