video shows how to make a "high amp" earth battery. this new design produces 10 times the amps of a normal earth battery cell. it's always been easy to increase their voltage (you just hook a few in series) but increasing their amperage has been more of a challenge. a typical earth-battery is made with copper wire and 'zinc coated' steel bolts (or screws) but this new design uses copper and aluminum sheeting, which allows for a larger flow of current (due to the increased surface area of the metals). this battery is easy to make and can be made with sand, soil, dirt or just plain water. the largest amperage increase i saw (when compared to a standard size cell) was 1500% (or 15x) but it averages about (10x). the wetter the sand, soil or dirt is the higher the amp-output will be. pretty neat when you can use the "earth" to power things. i recently read that there are a few companies that are actually using earth batteries to power small sensors, and other remote monitoring equipment. pretty cool. A Few Notes... 1.) the voltage output of any size "cell" is always about the same. it doesn't matter how big it is or how much metal you use in it. voltages usually range from 0.5 volts to 0.8 volts per cell. to increase voltage you just hook a few of them together (in series) to make an earth battery bank. two of my multi-cell (higher voltage) earth/water batteries are shown in the second half of the video. those earth batteries have voltages from 5 to 14 volts. i'll post links to those videos below. 2.) the amp-output of this new design is still relatively low (compared to full amperes of current) but the increase is significant when running low powered items. as an example, two of the large higher-amp cells (hooked in series) could theoretically power up to 10 small items at a time. compare that to just one item *if you're using 2 standard size (shot glass size) earth battery cells hooked in series. again, the voltage output of both '2 cell' setups will be about the same (generally 1.2v to 1.5v) but the amps (and therefore the watts or total power output) will be 10x higher with the large cells. 3.) you can experiment with things like lemon juice, lime juice, or vinegar in place of the water (to get more overall power) but those degrade the metals pretty fast. i stuck with just water because if you use copper and aluminum (along with sand, soil or dirt) and water, the unit can last for many years with no degradation of the metal. i've included some footage of a few lemon juice, lime juice and vinegar batteries that i made a few years back. links to those previous vids are listed below.
