“WHEN ABRAHAM WEPT” — A Tribute to the Father of the Faithful This song captures one of the most sacred, tender, and soul-tearing moments in all scripture: Abraham mourning the death of his beloved Sarah, the woman who walked with him through deserts, covenants, revelations, and miracles. This is not the Abraham of heroic triumphs. Not the Abraham calling down angels. Not the Abraham ascending Mount Moriah. This is Abraham the husband. Abraham the mourner. Abraham the broken-hearted man kneeling beside the woman he loved. And in this intimate silence, we discover a depth of faith that surpasses every victory he ever won. ________________________________________ 💔 THE TEARS OF A PROPHET Scripture seldom shows us prophets weeping — but when it does, heaven is speaking. Genesis 23 records the moment Abraham loses Sarah: “And Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.” (Genesis 23:2) These eleven words carry the weight of eternity. The father of nations — the man of unshakable obedience — the prophet who walked with God — is brought to his knees by sorrow. This image captures the very heartbeat of that scripture. ________________________________________ 🌌 WHY THIS MOMENT MATTERS 1. It reveals the humanity of God’s greatest servants. Abraham’s grief teaches us that: • Faithful people still break • Righteous souls still grieve • Tears are not a lack of faith but evidence of love Even Christ wept (John 11:35). Abraham wept. The greatest hearts feel the deepest pain. ________________________________________ 2. It testifies that covenants are eternal. When Abraham touched the body of Sarah, he knew this was not the end. God had promised: “In thee and in thy seed shall all families of the earth be blessed.” (Genesis 28:14) From the Pearl of Great Price, we learn: “I give unto thee a promise that this right shall continue in thee.” (Abraham 2:11) Sarah was part of that promise. Her story did not end in the cave of Machpelah. Abraham’s grief was real— but so was his hope. ________________________________________ 3. It symbolizes the price of discipleship. Abraham had: • left his homeland, • faced famine, • nearly offered his son, • battled kings, • trusted God when logic failed. But this — this quiet heartbreak — may have been his greatest test of all. And he passed it not by strength, but by trust. ________________________________________ 4. It teaches the world how to mourn with faith. The Book of Mormon echoes this principle: “Ye shall live in thanksgiving … for the things which he hath done.” (Alma 34:28) Even in grief. Even in silence. Even in loss. D&C 42:45 teaches: “Thou shalt live together in love, insomuch that thou shalt weep for the loss of them that die.” Abraham lived this commandment centuries before it was given. ________________________________________ ✨ SCRIPTURAL SUPPORT OLD TESTAMENT • Genesis 23 — Death of Sarah; Abraham’s mourning • Genesis 22 — Abraham’s obedience and covenant loyalty • Genesis 15 — The stars of promise • Genesis 17 — God establishes the everlasting covenant BOOK OF MORMON • Ether 12:6 — “Ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.” • Alma 7:11–12 — Christ takes upon Him our grief • Mosiah 18:9 — “Mourn with those that mourn” NEW TESTAMENT • Romans 4 — Paul’s testimony of Abraham’s unwavering faith • Hebrews 11 — Abraham as the father of the faithful • John 11:35 — Jesus wept PEARL OF GREAT PRICE • Abraham 1–3 — Chosen lineage, divine promises, premortal knowledge DOCTRINE & COVENANTS • D&C 42:45 — Weep with those who weep • D&C 138:14 — The righteous dead await resurrection in hope #WhenAbrahamWept #AbrahamCollection #TelestialSounds
