Hosted by the Museums of Mississauga on Friday October 24, 2025, this panel discussion was held in conjunction with A History Exposed: The Enslavement of Black People in Canada, on view from the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Adamson Estate from October 4 to December 28, 2025. Held at the Living Arts Centre’s Studio Theatre, the panel featured distinguished historian, poet, and exhibition curator Dr. Afua Cooper, alongside scholar Dr. Cheryl Thompson, local historian Justine Lyn, and municipal leader Nakia Phillips. These experts in Black history discussed the culture, resilience and leadership of people of African descent, sharing important contributions made by Black Canadians to our country and locally in Mississauga, and what we can do today to preserve our history in the face of a rapidly changing digital future. The evening’s conversation highlighted untold stories and historical perspectives that challenge and expand our understanding of Canada’s past.
