Evernham’s new ambition – bringing Dodge back to NASCAR’s top series – singlehandedly alters the trajectory of the 2000 season, which becomes a year of tremendous change. In PART TWO, the cars and stars of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series arrive in Daytona to prepare for the “Great American Race.” Awaiting them is the most aggressive aerodynamic package that NASCAR has yet conceived, bringing a mix of slingshots and pack racing to the sport’s biggest race. In PART THREE, after 500 days of anticipation and a week of intense racing, the stage is set for the most competitive Daytona 500 in recent memory, starring the track’s most celebrated driver. In PART FOUR - At first, the wreck didn’t look so bad. Just another of a series of late-race incidents in NASCAR’s most prestigious race. After all, the day belonged to Michael Waltrip, who finally broke through with his first win in his 463rd start. But conspicuously absent from victory lane was team owner Dale Earnhardt, who had yet to climb from his wrecked No. 3. What was announced that evening – and what followed over the next several days – would shake the sport of professional stock car racing to its core.
