*UPDATE: The Intel AX200 and 9260 cards are both compatible with this laptop, and basically every other laptop with non-CNVi WiFi. I've installed and tested both cards in this same laptop and they work like a charm. I have Gigabit Internet and I get the full beans with both of them, whereas the 8260 topped out at ~500 Mbps. The AX200 isn't faster than the 9260 in my particular use case since the 9260 was already capable of maxing out my Internet connection. I just upgraded to the AX200 for grins & laughter basically. Below are specs for each card. Enjoy!* https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/... https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/... First off, you may not need to replace your WiFi card; there is a piece of Dell bloatware called "Smartbyte" pre-installed on these machines and it wrecks your WiFi. Uninstall the Smartbyte software itself, THEN you must also disable the Dell Smartbyte service in Windows Services, or it will re-install itself (https://www.dell.com/community/Networ.... Thanks to TheMoltenMan ( / moltenman85 ) for the tip. If your WiFi is still slow, then swap out the wireless card. Read below for a detailed explanation. In this video I demonstrate the how to replace the WiFi card on a Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming laptop, because the Intel Wireless-AC 3165 card it ships with is junk. Read more below. I bought this Dell just a few months ago and its WiFi speed was half of what my 3 year old Lenovo laptop was getting. It was driving me nuts until I found out it shipped with an Intel Wireless-AC 3165 WiFi card, which only has a 1x1 antenna. 1x1? Seriously!? What I get for buying a Dell I guess. So in order to fix its slow WiFi I upgraded the wireless card, and I just used the Intel 8260-AC WiFi card out of my old Lenovo laptop, which has a 2x2 antenna, and my WiFi now is as fast as it's supposed to be. Here are links to the specifications for each wireless card: https://ark.intel.com/products/89450/... https://ark.intel.com/products/86068/... Max throughput for the 3165 1x1 is 433 Mbps, but max throughput on the 8260 2x2 is 867 Mbps; it is double the throughput because it has double the antennas and therefore double the spatial streams. And that is why my WiFi speed literally doubled after I upgraded the card. As far as drivers go, the same driver is used for Intel 3165, 7265, 8260, 8265 wireless cards, so if you're swapping it for a 7265, 8260, or 8265 then your existing driver will work. Otherwise, you will need to download the appropriate driver beforehand, then install it once you have your new wireless card installed. I didn't film re-attaching the antenna wires; just make sure you push the connector until it "snaps" back onto the card and you'll be good to go. With my huge hands and sausage fingers it took a minute or two of fumbling around with those little wires and connectors, and would be a little boring to watch when all I'm doing is the reverse of removal anyway.
