Later that day he met Paul McCartney and the seeds of a great partnership in popular music were sown. Forty years later, all of the members of that group that played that day, with the sad exception of John himself, reunited to play at a special re-creation of the day John met Paul, organized to benefit the "Help!" Fund to restore the church hall at St. Peter's. They initially travelled around Woolton village playing on the back of a lorry in the procession, then played two sets on the St. Peter's Church Field in front of a huge crowd of villagers and Beatles fans who travelled from all over the world to be there. Later that evening in the Church Hall the Quarrymen played to a packed audience, an event which was heavy with nostalgia, an unforgettable experience for all those present. The following morning they unveiled a plaque commemorating their performance and the meeting of John and Paul forty years previously. As a result of this reunion which they so much enjoyed, the Quarrymen decided to make a recording of their music, without which the Beatles would never have happened!
