Hi, and welcome to the review of the Channel Islands Pod and Pod Mod. I've been riding the Pod in a custom 5'8 x 20 x 2 1/2 @ 31.5L, and the Pod Mod as a 5'6 x 20 1/4 x 2 1/2 @ 31.5L. I've been lock to have surfed the Pod Mod a lot over the last few years, but never the Pod Mod, so I was super keen to check it out! I knew the Pod Mod was a great groveller, but the performance of the Pod across all waves conditions really below me away! www.cisurfboards.com/surfboards/legacy-lineup/the-pod/ A global favorite for punting since 2000. The Pod is built to fly. Deep concaves with a foiled nose and a swallow tail keep the Pod lively and maintains its high performance. The “snub” nose puts volume forward, allowing for maximum planing and wave catching. The wide, curvy outline makes the Pod friendly for all levels of surfers. Ride this board 6″ to 8″ shorter, about 1 1/2″ wider and about 1/8″ thicker, about 3″ to 6″ shorter than you are tall. www.cisurfboards.com/board/pod-mod/ In 2000 the original Pod rapidly became a global favorite, allowing surfers to drop six inches off their shortboards and revolutionize punting. The Pod Mod design is a heavily modified Pod, designed to be ridden even shorter and wider than the original, catering to the surfer that wants a little more volume forward to catch waves but doesn’t want to sacrifice performance. The tail has been widened for small wave glide, and the original single to double concave has been replaced with a flat entry to concave vee for quick rail to rail transitions. Experienced surfers ride this board 3”- 6” shorter than you are tall. In the Pod I rode the large Al Merrick thruster templet by Futures Fins - www.futuresfins.com/surfboard-fins/am2-honeycomb-509.html The AM2 Honeycomb, designed by Al Merrick of Channel Island Surfboards, is a large size Balanced fin with a Ride Number of 4.6. Featuring a neutral flex pattern this fin is a more versatile option for bigger surfers. The AM2 Honeycomb fin is designed to perform in a variety of conditions and features a smaller center fin for increased maneuverability. And in the Pod Mod, I went with the AMT twin + 1 set by Futures Fins - www.futuresfins.com/surfboard-fins/amt-twin.html The AMT was designed by legendary Channel Islands creator, Al Merrick, for Rob Machado's Robber model surfboard. The AMT generates maximum speed, drive and hold through big carves to perform around pointbreaks or lined up beach breaks. The AMT's honeycomb material give this fin a medium flex pattern while the large area provides ample hold in powerful waves. The set is equipped with the option to ride with a small trailer fin for increased drive and stability through bottom and top turns. The Pod and Pod Mod are two classic C.I surfboards, and it was epic to check them both out! Thanks so much for checking out the review today, and be sure to Like, Subscribe and Share!
