El Paraje Natural Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja destaca por poseer una de las mayores extensiones donde ha aflorado, desde las entrañas de la tierra, un tipo de rocas de origen volcánico llamadas peridotitas. Este material, confiere a estas sierras su característico color granate y, a su vez, le da nombre. Estos minerales, un clima suave y un régimen especial de lluvias crean las condiciones necesarias para el crecimiento de más de 50 especies vegetales difíciles de ver en otros espacios naturales. Es el caso del Galium viridiflorum o Staelina baetica. Destacable también es la única población de pinsapos sobre peridotitas, con una extensión de 90 hectáreas y repartidas en cuatro zonas distintas. El pinsapo, un tipo de abeto, es una reliquia de un pasado glaciar que, en la actualidad, sólo tiene presencia en algunas sierras de Cádiz y Málaga. El visitante lo hallará en zonas altas, mezclados con aulagas o piornos finos, como en el caso del vértice de Los Reales, a 1.450 metros de altitud. En su ascenso, pueden identificarse otras especies propias de este Paraje Natural, tales como el pino o el alcornoque. El matorral está compuesto principalmente por aulagas y madroños. Desde este enclave se podrán disfrutar de espectaculares panorámicas de la Costa del Sol y de los bellos pueblos serranos. La rica vegetación de este paraje es hogar de numerosos mamíferos. El corzo y la gineta prefieren las zonas más espesas, mientras que el matorral lo ocupa el meloncillo y los riscos, la cabra montés. Las aves también tienen su representación con el agateador o el piquituerto. También es muy rica la comunidad de rapaces, como el águila real y perdicera, el halcón peregrino o el búho real. El patrimonio cultural que alberga este paraje también merece una visita. En la población de Casares hay que pasear por su casco antiguo o ver los restos de su castillo árabe. Genalguacil, situado entre el río Genal y Sierra Bermeja, es una localidad de bellos paisajes verdes que mantiene el encanto de los pueblos con herencia árabe, propios de la comarca. Y por último Estepona, localidad costera, en la que el viajero disfrutará de los aromas del mar y de sus montes, que mantiene uno de los cuatro pinsapares de este espacio natural.
