Gorée Island lies approximately three kilometers off the coast of Dakar and covers less than one square kilometer. While internationally recognized for its role in the Atlantic slave trade and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978, the island remains an active residential community with a population of roughly 1,000 to 1,500 people. This 17-minute walking video focuses on present-day life on Gorée Island. The route passes through narrow pedestrian streets, residential buildings dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, local art displays, and areas near the Atlantic coastline. Tourism, small-scale art sales, and local activity contribute to the island’s economy today. Alongside preserved historical structures, families continue to live, work, and maintain daily routines. This episode highlights the contemporary social and architectural landscape of Gorée beyond its museum sites. #GoreeIsland #Senegal #Dakar #WestAfrica #UNESCO #AfricanHistory #WalkingTour #POVWalk #TravelDocumentary #AfricanCulture
