Misch and Dayes are both active within the contemporary jazz scene in South London and first met at the album launch for Misch’s debut record Geography. ‘Tidal Wave’ is typical of Misch’s earlier work, with a chill groove-based neo-soul sound, taking cues from acid jazz and hip hop with intricate drum patterns. The album was a commercial success, peaking at number 4 on the UK album chart. South London producer and musician Tom Misch started releasing music as a teenager, uploading his original songs to SoundCloud. After the release of his debut album in 2018, he worked on an array of different projects, including collaborating with Yussef Dayes, a lockdown-inspired work Quarantine Sessions and creating electronic music under the alias Supershy. ■ All candidates should ensure they bring their own Grade syllabus book to the exam or have proof of digital purchase ready to show the examiner.
