A New Giant Mosasaur From Morocco

The halisaurines are a relatively obscure and little-studied group of mosasaurs, and it's generally been assumed, a little group of mosasaurs. We report a new halisaur from the late Maastrichtian of Morocco— Pluridens imelaki, a giant halisaurine with a 1.25 meter long skull and growing as much as 9 meters in length. The other interesting thing about Pluridens is that it's unique— it's the only specimen known out of hundreds of mosasaurs from Morocco. In the fossil record- as in the modern world- most species are rare, which makes it difficult to get a complete picture of diversity, even with the incredible levels of sampling we have in Morocco.
