Hi Doc, what is that? Well, this is the Speculum. It's called a Cusco's Vaginal Speculum and this is used when we want to look at the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus or the womb. So if you look here, this is the uterus and this is the lower part. When we want to examine the cervix, like take a Pap Smear, that's when we use the speculum. What is Pap Smear? Pap Smear is an examination test. It is a cancer screening test. This is how we place the speculum inside the lower part, the vagina. We open it so that we can look at the cervix, and then we pass in a brush. This is how we pass in the brush. As you see here, we take the cells from the cervix (the lower part) and send these samples for testing because this is a Cervical Cancer Screening Test. "It sounds very painful. I will never do that." Well, it can be a little uncomfortable, but if you go to a kind gynaecologist with your mind well prepared, it's actually not painful.
