Now that we have opened our new winter turnout and moved 3 of our horses to the front of the farm, we need to work to establish new feeding routines for everyone. Even our other 2 minis who have remained in the rear portion of the farm have changed paddocks which will require modifications the their previously set routines as well. Anytime you start to change routines, it takes time. Horses are creatures of habit and can become confused or excited by change, but with consistency and a few modifications we can begin to set new routines that work to meet the needs of both horse and handler. Moving horses into a brand new turnout or new facility is much like moving into a new home. We need to figure out where everything goes, hang items, gather supplies and establish new routines that fit the new space.
