In this video, I’m diving into an expressive abstract painting session built around a simple but powerful art prompt. The idea was to create a painting in just 20 minutes using three colors, black and white, and at least one mark-making tool—all inspired by how my week went. This kind of intuitive art practice is one of my favorite art exercises because it lets us process and express energy, emotion, or just pure movement without the pressure to make something perfect. Throughout the video, I use bold marks, scribbles, and gestural strokes to explore feeling and flow. I work with a limited palette—yellow ochre, magenta, and light blue permanent—and layer everything on un-gessoed watercolor paper. The result? A piece filled with vibrant layers, spontaneous texture, and unexpected surprises. —Prompt— Time limit of 20 minutes Colors: 3 Colors (Artist's Choice), plus black and white Extra: Use at least one mark making item of any color (such as a pen, pastel, charcoal etc.) Goal: Create an expressive abstract painting that represents how your week went.
