Today, I'm going to take you through the colours of my plein air palette. But I'm not going to just list the colours, I'm going to demonstrate how I use them to get the colours I typically find I need when I'm out painting. And to help me do that, I'm going to bring up a couple of recent plein air pieces in ChromaMagic and mix some of the colours from the paintings live. This way, I'll be able to give you in insight into not just why each of those colours are there, but how to translate the colours of the natural world into paint. What you'll need -------------------------- If you want to try some of the mixes along me, these are the paints I'll have on the palette (they're all Michael Harding except for the lead white): Lead white (Rublev #1) Titanium white Cad yellow Bright yellow lake Yellow ochre Cobalt Blue Transparent red oxide Green gold Raw umber Ivory black -----------------------------USEFUL LINKS----------------------------- Brushes: Ive got a flower-painting brush set including the main brushes I typically use for flower paintings up on Rosemaruy's Brushes site, you can see it here: https://www.rosemaryandco.com/brush-s... The app I use to investigate the colour is called ChromaMagic. You can find it on the Apple and Google Play stores, and there is also a Windows version. It's very inexpensive and extremely useful! If you struggle at all with judging values and colours, or with mixing, this is a great tool to help you calibrate your estimates by giving you immediate feedback on how close your guesses come. You can get the Munsell value scale - which allows you to translate values from the app directly to your painting - from Paul Centore on Ebay here, also very inexpensive: https://www.ebay.com/itm/223003792036 Subscribe to my email list to get notifications of future live streams and other helpful info about painting in oils: https://www.learning-to-see.co.uk/sub...
