Located in the county of Derbyshire, and around 15 miles southeast of Manchester, is the town of Chapel-en-le-Frith. Geographically the town is located on the western fringe of the Peak District. After the Norman Conquest, the area was part of the royal hunting forest of the High Peak. In the 12th century the Normans established a hunting lodge within the forest situated here. In 1225, the Earl of Derby gave permission for a chapel of ease to be built in the forest, hence the town's name: Chapel-en-le-Frith, being derived from Anglo-Norman, meaning 'chapel in the forest'. This was replaced in the 14th century by the Church of St Thomas Becket, which stands at the highest point of the town to this day, although the current edifice was largely rebuilt in the 18th century. In 1863 the railway arrived in Chapel-en-le-Frith. In 1867 a second station opened, which by 1924 came to be known as Chapel-en-le-Frith Central. This was closed in 1967 due to the Beeching cuts, however the original station remains open. Situated about a mile south of the town centre, it provides a direct transport link to both Buxton and Manchester. Trains to Manchester Picccadilly take around 50 minutes. In 1897 brake manufacturer Ferodo was founded by Herbert Frood. Since 1902 they have been based in Chapel-en-le-Frith. 👇 SUBSCRIBE TO 4K EXPLORER FOR NEW VIDEOS EVERY WEEK 👇 https://www.youtube.com/4KExplorer?su...
