During the docking of the Saipem 7000 at Damen Verolme, our docking winches where used to ensure a safe and smooth process. Here is how the system works: Two winches pull the ship in while the other two regulate speed and position with precise counterweight. This prevents any sideways veering or rapid floating . As the counterweight winches release their cables, energy is recovered and reused by the pulling winches. The docking winches are controlled by a centralised computer system, allowing the seamless manoeuvring of vessels of all shapes and sizes. This intelligent dock winch system was built as a ‘one-off’, developed and set up specifically for the requirements of the client.
