Salva Kiir struggles to walk in Ethiopia as Abiy Ahmed comes to his rescue

During the official inauguration ceremony of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Tuesday of September 9th 2025, one particular scene that got our attention was the Ethiopian prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's noble act to provide support for the South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardiit. The visibly weak Salva Kiir who had decided to join various African and Caribbean heads of states in attending the historical ceremony on the Ethiopian soil could not walk on his own, and the highly spirited Ethiopian prime Minister took it up on himself to provide to him the support that he needed to move around. Due to the seemingly weak condition that he was in, the 74 year old South Sudanese leader had even been limited from touring various parts of the dam and it's adjacent hydroelectric power station, unlike his counterparts who freely toured as many areas as they could, but in the few places that he managed to access, he needed someone's support to move around. And thus when need arose, like a caregiver tending to his patient, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stuck on his right side, held his hand and guided his steps to enable him participate like any other attendant. It's to be noted that Salva Kiir is officially reported to be in good health, with no confirmed diagnosis of any specific illness as of September 2025, but rumors about his health, including speculations of serious illness or even death have circulated periodically on social media in the recent past, but these have been repeatedly dismissed by the South Sudanese government as false and malicious propaganda aimed at creating instability. So in short, there has so far been no official confirmation that Salva Kiir is suffering from any particular ailment, but he has in the past exhibited various signs of a possible age related cognitive or physical health decline, like nosebleeding, speech breakdown and unknowingly peeing on himself in public.
