So many people are surprised when I say I'm a food scientist, but the funny thing is, food science is around us each and every day. Food science is the application of chemistry, physics, and microbiology to the food supply. This means food scientists help ensure the safety and quality of food as well as innovate and create new products. A degree in food science can open up so many possibilities! You can become a product developer or researcher. You can work in food quality, manufacturing, or safety. Maybe you want to solve problems involving sustainability and food waste?! These are all options. My food science degrees are both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and I cannot even count how many doors these degrees have opened for me!
