(31 Aug 2018) DYSON CALLS TRUMP 'LUGUBRIOUS LEECH' AT FRANKLIN FUNERAL While much of Aretha Franklin's funeral service centered around the life and legacy of the soul singer, Michael Eric Dyson took some time to call out the current president. "This orange apparition had the nerve to say she work for him," said Dyson, referring to statement Donald Trump had made saying Franklin had worked for him on "numerous occasions" The Georgetown University professor had harsh words for the president. "You, lugubrious leech. You, doppelganger of deceit and deviance. You, lethal liar. You, dim-witted dictator. You, foolish fascist. She didn't work for you. She worked above you. She worked beyond you," said Dyson. President Trump wasn't the only person Dyson called out. The author, preacher and radio host also pointed to unnamed individuals who did not attend the service. "(Aretha Franklin) was about working with Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. She was about transforming the existence of Black America," said Dyson. "Now negroes scared to say they black. Scared to show up at a too-black place. That's why some black folk ain't here today. They sending letters. They don't want to get up in this blackness. They don't want to feel the nasty power of this blackness." Toward Franklin, Dyson's sentiments were kind: "Aretha Franklin was an original. Never one like her before, never another like her afterward. She was bold and brilliant and courageous and beautiful and indebted to the traditions that sparked our renewal. She refused to sell out. She remained herself all along in her life."
