After roaming along the ocean with the campervan, I decided to head into the mountains of Portugal to chase some legends. The Castle of Lousã is one of those places which is shrouded in mystery. According to the legend, the castle was used as a refuge for King Arouce and his daughter, the Princess Peralta. After the King lost his life battling the enemy Prince Lausus, it is said the Princess was locked in the castle until her final days… Around the castle, there is a beautiful trail which goes along three schist villages. These villages are made from the schist rock and have lost most of their population long ago. Still, some life is returning to these villages, driven by tourism and folk longing for a quiet life in the mountains.
