ZEAL FOR GOD'S HOUSE | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (November 9, 2025) with Sign Language We are celebrating today the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome—the “mother and head of all the churches in the city and the world.” It is a visible sign of our unity with the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. And as the oldest church in the West, built by Constantine the Great, the Lateran Basilica is the Cathedral Church of the Pope as the Bishop of Rome. In today’s gospel, Jesus teaches us reverence for God’s temple as not only a place for worship but also as the house of God. “Take these out of here, and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace,” he told the vendors and money-changers, who profane the place by profiting from the piety of the people. Then, he told the Jews who questioned about his action, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.” Jesus teaches us that his body is God’s temple. In Jesus we find the true worship of God. Saint John tells us that the Lord’s disciples remembered this when he died and rose from the dead. So, brothers and sisters, with Jesus our head we, the body of Christ, we are God’s temple. We are the living stones of the temple animated by the Holy Spirit with Jesus as the cornerstone.
