This is my eighth recording of compositions by Graham Twist - I'm now an out and very proud Twistaholic! Written in homage to the great Belgian organist and composer, Flor Peeters, this beautiful Aria exudes both chromatic warmth and gravitas. By way of registration I couple the 8-foot flute and ultra-mellow strings of the Swell to the 8-foot flute and Dulciana of the Choir. I then play the solo line on the luscious Great Clarabella Flute (which I happen to know is one of the composer's favourite stops on this organ!) with the other two divisions coupled through to the Clarabella as well. This gives a suitably rich feel to the registration which underpins the signature chromaticism of those delicious harmonies. Played by Paul Broadhurst on the vintage "Father" Henry Willis organ of Christ Church, Birkenhead, UK Recorded 26/08/2025 Thumbnail: The hugely picturesque Sycamore Gap Tree in Northumberland, UK, which was featured in the 1991 film 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves'. Beauty and discord feature in both this pensive Aria and in the tragic, ongoing story of this remarkable tree. Hope springs from the final A Major chord of the music and in the new shoots which have emerged from the tree's base following the barbarous vandalism of its felling. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sycamor...
