Hi everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we're looking at our Saris Bones EX 3 bike rack here on our 2017 Mazda3. So, the Saris Bones is a trunk mounted bike rack that goes on your trunk of your vehicle. So, if you do not have a hitch or you cannot install one, this might be a good option for you in order to carry around your bikes and bring them to where you need them to go. So, this can carry three bikes. So, if you do have a class I hitch, kind of like what I have here on our Mazda today, which cannot carry more than two bikes, this may be your best option when it comes to carrying multiple bikes. So, we have one, two, three cradles, and they do have a weight capacity of 35 pounds per bike. So, just make sure that your bikes aren't too heavy and that you are within that weight capacity. Now, let's take a look at the way our bike is mounted to this bike rack. We have one, two and three mounting points. So, two on the top tube, and this third one down here works kind of as an anti-sway cradle. So, if our front wheel is strapped down, you can see how that with that anti-sway cradle, it really reduces the sway, which is very important for a hanging style bike rack because you do want to prevent those bikes swaying into each other. Now, if you wanna take your bike off, that's where we start. So, let's go over here to the cradle. You press that lever in, and you push on that strap and just take it out. So one, and then here's our second one, and then our third one. Once all three straps are released, you just lift up on your bike and bring it through the bike rack, and then you're ready to go on a bike ride. Now, with the bike off, we get to take a closer look here at our cradles as well as our straps. So, these Saris Bones has a very unique style to their cradles and their straps. You can see here how we have these straps that have these bumps on inside the strap, so that's gonna help cushion since they are made of a harder rubber. So, it's gonna help cushion your frame and protect it from scuffs and scratches, but it is also gonna provide that extra grip and traction that you want on that frame, just to make sure it's not moving around as you drive around. So, one big tip that I have for you guys is that to please put these straps away, even if you don't have any bikes on there. That way, they're not flopping around as you drive around and they will last longer. So, our Mazda3 here has a spoiler, which is why the Saris Bones EX 3 is actually a really good fit for our car. We do have this dog leg style of a leg for our mounting. And you can see how this creates a strap that goes over that spoiler and into our hatch, creating a secure fit for our trunk rack. So, let's take a look at our three sets of straps that secure our trunk rack. We have two on the top. Now, these are gonna have to be replaced with the Hatch Huggers, so check that out here at our etrailer.com website. We also have these hooks that go into the side. And then on the bottom, we have the hooks that go underneath our hatch door. So, just get the top Hatch Huggers first, and then hook them into your hatch as you close the door. Now, any trunk mounted bike rack is gonna have contact with your vehicle. I, of course, if you can, I do recommend getting a hitch mounted bike rack. But if you do have to get a trunk mounted bike rack, here are some things you can do just to protect your vehicle from excessive scratching or damage. So here, we have two feet at the top as well as two feet on the bottom where our bumper is. Before you attach your bike rack, please make sure to clean off the surfaces where your feet will mount to. That way, you don't have a layer of dust between those feet, making, because of the extra dust may scratch up your glass, so just clean that off before you put the feet on. And these are articulated feet, which means that they will conform to your vehicle's contours. Now, this is still gonna add some length to the back of your vehicle, so let's take some measurements just to see exactly how much. So, from the rear bumper of our Mazda3 to the end of the bike rack, which is right over here, it sits at about 20 inches away from your bumper. So, this is gonna be a measurement you're gonna have to remember whenever you're backing into your garage or parking into a tight spot. It's still a nice compact bike rack even with the arms out, but just remember that it is behind your
