Kibagami is... not really that bad, even with my offenses in the gutter. He doesn't do a whole lotta damage, and is more of a showcase of what the Bushi class can do. Though you don't unlock those until after beating the labyrinth boss. If you're using food or accessories to increase your elemental resistances, don't bother. A lot more enemies in EO4 use composite attacks compared to any of the other EO games, rendering that defensive strategy useless for this fight. Yeah as much sense it makes flavor wise for certain attacks to do that, there's a reason EO doesn't make use of that all too often in other games. Especially after this game nerfed accessories to be limited to 1 slot after the shenanigans people got up to in EO3. Kibagami's main mechanic is Blood Surge, which increases his damage by 80% while dealing a fixed 220 damage to him each time he acts. Yes, this can kill him. This actually takes his damage to more threatening levels, so you'll want some defensive measures up to deal with it. Blood Surge is a state, not a buff, (EO4 introduced those yeah) so you can't get rid of it easily. If he charges, just defend. Unlike later titles where charge mechanics got more forgiving, it's possible for him to waste it on a support action here. He can heal himself sometimes but in a normal party that's a very minor setback. He'll only use Deep Breath once, which is the only thing that can remove the Blood Surge state. When he Blood Surges again, he's stuck like that for the rest of the battle. Meaning that you could just turtle through his attacks as he slowly kills himself, which helps a lot if your party has no offenses like mine does. Beating him unlocks subclassing, and therefore the ability to use skills in my case, but it's been nerfed in EO4. Unlike in 3, it doesn't let you invest all the way to max level in the subclass skills, being cut off at halfway instead. However due to how EO4's skills scale, their power is more front loaded with investing in the skill past the halfway level having more diminishing returns. So really subclass skills are more around 70% to 80% effective as they would be on a mainclass instead of 50%. (Nexus on the other hand has more linear skill scaling so subclassed skills are around 50% effective there instead.)
