During Israel’s War of Independence in 1948, the communities were attacked and destroyed, and the area remained without Jewish residents for nearly two decades. After the Six-Day War in 1967, many of the children of the original residents returned and rebuilt the communities from the ground up. Today, tens of thousands of Israelis live in Gush Etzion, creating vibrant towns, schools, and families in the mountains between Jerusalem and Hebron. The area has become a symbol of memory, rebuilding, and continuity.
